Boom, as I mentioned in my last post, here’s entry number two of two. Yup, two Sunshine Blogger Awards in a week. Not too shabby. What have I been doing to receive all this love? This time it was FloatingGold who sneakingly nominated me for this award just the other day. I was checking out their blog and as I came to the nominees section I noticed my name on the list. Just like last time, I was both surprised and once again flattered by another tip of the hat from a blogging friend. Thank you for your nomination and thanks for thinking that Earth to Ash is up to your golden standard. (see what I did there?) We’ve been blogging friends for some time now as it is, so seeing this only reinforces that. Now peeps, after you give this my post a read, why not follow the above link and take some time to check out FloatingGold’s little piece of the bloggerverse. You won’t be disappointed.
I received a comment on my blog this morning that was left on yesterday’s entry. It not only blew me away, but it also hyper-spaced me down memory lane. It was from an old friend of mine from my childhood. Scratch that, an old best friend of mine, and boy did it instantly put a smile on my face. I literally laughed out loud when I saw the handle that this person had used to post the comment. As you WordPress users already know, comments on your blog are sometimes left there by fellow bloggers, but sometimes they are left from email followers. I pretty much know all my email followers personally as they are mostly friends, family, and the odd coworker past and present. This person though, I believe has been visiting my blog for some time now and has finally made me aware of it in a very subtle way. Well, at least I’m 99.9% sure it is. I mean, it has to be. There is only a few living souls that I know on the face of this earth that would know the legend of the “Wolverine Gull”. (Dramatic voice)
It’s my 100th Journal Entry post and I am using this perfect opportunity to say thank you. Thanks to my faithful readers, my trusty followers, and my dear friends. It might be the Irish whiskey typing and all single tears aside, but really, where would I be without you? Earth to Ash has been live for almost four years now, and if it weren’t for your extreme loyalty, I would have faded away into obscurity a long long time ago.
False friends are like our shadow, keeping close to us while we walk in the sunshine, but leaving us when we cross into the shade. – Christian Nevell Bovee
Afterschool practices and weekend tournaments were my only focus during this chapter of my life. Back when I hadn’t quite grown into my ears yet. Oh, how I miss the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. The clean-shaven, beer shirt wearing, non-look at the camera bunch of guys you see above were once my comrades in arms. For all of high school, I had the awesome opportunity to be a part of a team with these fine lads. Volleyball, basketball, hockey, you name it. We were good too, I’m not just saying that. It was just great chemistry I think, most likely because we all got along so well. Best of all, we got to share a bunch of really cool experiences together, being on the road was one of my favourite parts. It was a great time in my life for sure. When I look at the newspaper clipping now, I wonder what everybody is up to. It’s been forever since I have seen or spoken to most. I think this was 1994.
It was one of the hottest days that summer. We hung outside the apartment all afternoon drinking London Dock mixed with Lemonade. You kept singing the sweater song by Weezer at the top of your lungs. Both of us…not a care in the world.
