A Shade of Ash # 38 – I Mist That Feeling

Ah, the old misty stroll. The weather around here lately has been damp. This past Tuesday was no different. As soon as I left the house to begin my journey I was met with mist and scattered droplets of rain. It made me eager to carry on. There was something about the atmosphere it was creating. With each step I took, I was transported back to different times of my life that felt similar. The feeling was reminiscent and familiar. Not long into my walk, I found myself standing at the head of a stage. A stage is a word we use for a wharf here in Newfoundland and Labrador. So, technically, I was standing on what we call a stage head. There are several words you’ll find in our very own Newfoundland dictionary that are for us interchangeable, but that’s another post for another day. Anyway, there I was. Taking it all in and absorbing the essence of a lazy Tuesday evening loving life and what it has given me at that moment. Then, Poppy had to poop and ruin it.

With Poppy looking more relaxed, I decided to move on and continued my walk. Immediately I was peppered with all these memories once again. I had no control over it and did not care one bit either because I started to remember things I hadn’t thought about for some time. I have the dampening mist to thank for that. It was like there were slides of my life scrolling through my thoughts all with a similar backdrop. Some rain, a warm drizzle, and a lot of fog. The perfect setting. I admit I thanked myself for acknowledging the universe for tapping me on my shoulder. The benefits of being present in a moment are vital to me and especially to my mental health. I’m sure a lot of you reading this Ash post can testify to that as well. Personal wellness along with mental health is talked about more now than it ever had been in the past and that’s very comforting to those who struggle. Not everyone understands the struggle but for those who do, they understand balance even more. When you find balance in your life for a change, that can become one very good day. But the problem sometimes is we get so caught up with the other aspects of our lives that we fail to enjoy and acknowledge the moments of our lives that were meant just for us. That acknowledgement is a part of self-care.

Self-care is a critical focus in my life, but I too am guilty of becoming automatized with the rinse and repeat of typical day-to-day. I scold myself when I wake up and realize it. All the time. Life just passes on by until triggers beam me back down to earth. Triggers like the other day. When the mist swarmed me from every angle waking me up to take a deep breath and enjoy the story Mother Nature had for me. All of those similar moments with a familiar backdrop she has stored for me in the clouds. I know that might sound silly. Only, for me, it’s very much a thing. I respond better to the universe than I do to another human being…that’s a fact. When I do respond to a human being, well it’s to tell them all about it. Like this Ash post that I am very happy to share with you. Now go out there and find your moment. You’d be surprised how many you’ve “mist”.

Until…

  1. Thank you so much for this. I love other people’s take on what I try to convey. Yes, flashes of all things similar. Being in the moment validates you existed and life is right there for the taking. We forget that every now and again. My post is to maybe nudge you the same. Glad you took the time and I appreciate your reading it and leaving a comment like you did. Keeps my momentum going. Until…
