Earth to Ash Podcast Episode # 20 – Just Cause

Welcome back, join me and my continuing conversation about my thoughts, feelings, and emotions to the world around me.

In this episode, I talk about how important it is to tell yourself how proud you are of yourself. Other people rock but so do you. I also give you a glimpse of a day in the life of Bartender Ash with a memory-inspired tale. And, as always, I throw in a quote and a poem for good measure.

Enjoy!!

  1. Good show! I had to chuckle – after I told you I was just thinking it was about time for a new episode, I listen and one of the first things you say is that it’s been so long since your last one you knew some of us were probably anticipating the next one…how right you were! Lol… And that’s awesome about “One Saturday” receiving so much feedback in ticked hearts. I don’t doubt you’ll be nominated for either author or publication of the month. And thanks for the added insight into how you write your poetry. I know we talked about it a bit before, but it still amazes me how suddenly and smoothly you write them. I’ve written a few that way, and they are by far my favorites, but most I need to re-read, revise and repeat. Though I do agree 100% that the words have to flow from and in the moment, otherwise, they’re just forced – fabricated. For example, I mentioned to you the other day about my results of the vss365 prompts being hit or miss – some I “feel”…they truly spark something… Some, I just find myself determined to write something, almost in spite of myself- swing and a miss! Lol… The words really do need to mean something, don’t they? And you can tell a lot about a writer/poet by their muse(s), by what the theme/focus of their writing is. For me that is either heartbreak or heart hope, if that makes sense, and is probably why I lean toward the romance genre in story writing (despite not having had very much of it in my life 🫣🙄). Poetically, I definitely write my best when I’m trading tears for words. For you, it’s nostalgia, it’s family – which is both very cool and very sweet, and is, I think, part of what draws me to your writing. I’m the same way, very sentimental, and becoming more so with age, but to write about my childhood, or even my young adulthood and the friends I knew, is near impossible. I’ve tried, and the words just aren’t there. But I appreciate how easy you make it seem and wish I could do the same, but that’s not my “place” in poetry (or story telling), and that’s ok. Thankfully, it’s yours and you own it! Hey, good luck with the anthology… I think I know the one you mean… I submitted, too… *Waits with baited breath* 💕

    1. Hey…thanks for this. Get out, your place is in poetry…don’t be foolish. You’re a great poet and someone I lean on a lot. It’s people like you that keep me motivated and driven. My poems are family and nostalgia driven, it’s the only way I know. Good luck with all your work and we’ll get there someday somehow. Glad you liked the show, was feeling it and it came out good I think. Have a great day and wonderful weekend. Here’s to writing and us writers. Until…

      1. Ohh…awww….thank you so much! I can always count on you calling me out when I talk silly! But I didn’t mean I don’t have a place in a poetry, but that sometimes my poetry doesn’t have a place, but I guess that doesn’t sound much better, does it? Lol… Thing is, I tend to read poetry of others that tells a story, or paints a picture, and is so poignant, and then I read my own and it doesn’t seem to compare – but deep down, I know it doesn’t need to. I write what I write and write it well. But on the surface, sometimes I feel a little less poet-like… Like I can do better… But thank you for what you said – means the world to me, and so do you, my friend! 😊

      2. Stop there, your poems always have a place. You sound like me forensically breaking down your poems and your talent…stop that. I did. My words are mine and I give them away. I hope they have value to others because they do to me. Oh…you just gave me a quote, lol. Chin up and write.
