A Shade of Ash # 41 – On-Line Therapy

Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have a saying, “Some day on clothes.” It’s a way to describe the weather. A fine day to pin some clothes on the line to dry. It can also be a way to describe how you’re feeling, as explained by the nice man in the video I’ve left for you below. By the way, that YouTube channel has a lot of our culture, history, and gorgeous scenery if you’re interested. Yes, the people of my beautiful island have always emoted using cultural phrases which are associated with everyday experience. When we have a feeling to share, there’s usually a Newfoundland and Labrador way of saying it.

I pass by the scene pictured above daily while on my walking route. Each time, I pause for a moment. More often than not, I stand there for a few minutes. It gives me a mental uptick along with slapping a smile on my face before I move on my way. Blips of growing up come to mind. How I ran through backyards with my friends ducking clotheslines just like this one. Taking a few bras and wool socks to the face as we raced through. Those summer Saturdays hiding behind big bed sheets from that one mean dog trying to get our baseball and depending on whose turn, leave with both of our own intact. My favourite flashes of memories are the ones that include my grandmother. A basket on her hip bigger than her, and clothespins in her mouth at the ready. One eye open and the other squinting from the sun. So many triggers from a quaint stop along the way that gave me a gateway to a bounty of wonderful memories to last until the next time I stop for some free “on-line” therapy.

Remember, this stuff happens when give yourself to being present in a moment. When the spontaneity of life gets the timing of something just right you kind of feel it. You either choose to ignore it which is just life passing you by, or stop and take in a little of that life of yours. The simple things. The backdrops, the atmospheres, the place settings, the right there right now. Living life for the pureness of just being can grant you gifts. Even memories of your past that you can continue to enjoy in the present. That’s what I call…”Some day on clothes.”

Until…

  1. Thank you. Love spreading a good vibe. And it’s just how I see it and live it in this case. One day at a time. My grandmother would always say “So far, so good. Thanks for reading and you’ll be graded at a later date of your knowledge… Lol, Happy Writing!!
