Bike Writer # 38 – Guess Who’s Getting a New Bike?

“Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike” – John F Kennedy

Hey everybody,

I teased this a few entries ago and I just made good on it. Well, I did this past Saturday night as I could not wait anymore. I had to do it. Since the lockdown, it’s been a bit of a task to supplement my going to the gym. I’m trying my best to stay physically active with all what’s going on in the world. Both indoors and out. Indoors takes discipline, and I won’t lie, I’ve 5-seconded myself from working out inside a few times. But, outdoors, outdoors should come easy for me, and it is. My success has stemmed from doing the things that I enjoy already like walking, running, and most recently for the first time in years rollerblading. All of that has seemed to keep me content. It’s allowed me to stay active and more importantly it’s gotten me outside in a time where that’s not so easy either. There’s still something missing. Actually, I should say that there was something missing. The Bike Writer’s call was too strong. I was no longer able to suppress it from deep within. So, I jumped online, checked out a few sites and prices. Boom! Bike coming.

Now, I have no clue how long I’ll have to wait for its arrival. There’s more important things that need to get places and I’m OK with being patient in a time like this. I do hope it won’t be too too long. Anyway, it’s purchased and on its way and I thought it would be exciting news to share. I know a lot of you enjoy the series which can’t help but make me a little extra anxious. With my blog being slightly dormant lately, this is exactly what Earth to Ash is lacking and needs. I need this. Getting back outside will not only calm the anxieties of my content, but it will also calm the anxiety of not having an outlet like my bike. To get on and go. The rules are slightly different. Social-distancing will be a conscience element to any outing, but sure, a bike is awesome for that. By the way, how are you holding up? How have you been keeping yourself occupied? What types of things have you been doing to help you through it all? And, if any of you are essential workers, I’m grateful for you!!!

You know, I have to say that all this time home has been weird for me on a bunch of levels. There’s a couple of entries sitting in my drafts that detail some of them. I will save that content for when I’m ready to chat about it. Although, I will say that when it comes to writing, I’m not entirely sure where my head is at. My creativity seems to be just as quarantined inside as I am. Sure, I’ve posted a few things, but I’m still not happy with that. Let me take a quick sec and hit you with the thanks for being patient line. This funk will change, definitely once I get my feet on those pegs. It’s really the time of year where I have more access to inspiration anyway with simply being able to venture outside. On top of this horrible pandemic, we also just had one of the worst winters in the history of our province. I didn’t think I would ever see the snow go away to be honest. So, with a bunch of gut punches already this year, I’m due I think. I’m really hoping things will soon start to turn around. I’m hoping the same for you.

Oh, side-note. This is merely a thought, but I have been considering making a few videos with yours truly in them to potentially change it up a bit. Something once a week…maybe. Structure it in a way that fits my style. Talk about my adventures, where I’m from, recite my poems along my rides. I don’t know, I’m still chewing on it. Feedback is always welcomed. 😉

Before I go, I want to say that I hope you, your family, and all of your friends are doing well and everybody’s safe. I’ve been quiet as of late, but that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten any of you or your loyalty to my blog. This virus I believe has us all against the ropes, only we’re not going down. No way, we’re coming back swinging. Here in Newfoundland and Labrador, it seems we are winning our fight against Covid-19. Flattening the curve as they say. Though, we still have a ways to go in my opinion. No matter where you live it’s best to pump the brakes on going back too fast. That’s what I think at least. There have been talks in our local media of the government loosening some of the reigns. Personally, I feel like we shouldn’t rush in too fast too soon. I believe what we’ve been doing has really worked and it’s really proven what full cooperation by everyone can accomplish. If we jump the gun, we might not be able to control it like we’ve been successful in doing so far, which is I believe only two confirmed cases in the past nine days. That’s great and that’s also just after a cluster of over two hundred cases a few weeks ago. Mid-March, there was an incident that resulted from one lone person attending a funeral. It got dicey there for a while. All it took was that one person to infect a lot of others. It even killed three individuals.

Eesh! OK, enough Covid talk. So, rest assured folks, because as soon as the bike is delivered, I’m bound. Phone, tripod, camera in tow, on the road, and through the trailways. The open ones that is. Nonetheless, it won’t be long now before he returns.

Stay tuned for the return of the Bike Writer, 2020 edition!!!

Until…

  1. Ash, my man! Glad to see you!
Did you mean to write COVID-29?
Good to hear that you’re getting back on the horse soon. I need to add some air to my tires and start it, too. But I need to take it easy. I’ll share my experiences in a post in a day or two. I’ve missed writing and WP.
I know that many poets turned to Instagram. They post a short video (not of self but related images) of them reading their poems. The hope is that people who don’t normally enjoy reading (poetry) will watch/ listen. Just an idea if you wanted to give something like that a try.
    Go for it!
I’m hoping to be back starting May. I am SO ready!

    1. Hey you! You don’t know how awesome it is to hear from you. I’ve thought about you often. And, yeah 19 not 29, all we need now is a another strain of that garbage. Well, I’m happy to hear that you’re coming back, you’re missed. I hope you’re OK and I’m anxious to read about it, if it’s something you’ll share. Yeah, I need to get back at it to keep my life normal. Oh, and thanks for the Instagram suggestion, I like it. Take care and you’ve made my day with you dropping by. I’m looking forward to hearing more from you.
